Easter Idea

There was a great marketing idea from a local grower in a recent Green Profit email newsletter that I thought worth sharing, with permission from Tina Bemis. Tina Bemis of Bemis Farms Nursery in Spencer, Massachusetts (town of about 12,000) are expecting more than 800 children for their annual egg hunt this year. Their new goal is not so much to get more kids, but to convert more of their parents into buyers.

This year they planted inexpensive Easter Gardens and Tina had an even better idea ... they planted EASTER BUNNY FOOD GARDEN KITS with lettuces, dwarf peas, and edible flowers, all in a cute pink kit. It has all the elements to be successful: Veggies, (the latest trend), Edible Flowers, for those who wouldn't consider planting vegetables to begin with, and an Easy Kid's project. She uses pink Jumbo 6-packs and paints the handles Easter colors of purple, pink, blue or yellow. She puts 3 bamboo stakes in it with a sparkled bow.

Tina is very excited about this new product. It will hopefully turn more hunters into shoppers, feed into the whole vegetable gardening trend this year, and provide a half-hour activity that parents can do with their kids!
